Wherever you are it’s officially Spring and time to rejuvenate! This year’s colour and paint trends promise to wake up your senses. As much as trends (as the word would suggest) bring commonality, we’re happy to see lots of opportunity for personal expression this year. We’re summarizing the paint colour trends, calling out that rogue colour – black, and reviewing some super powered, high tech paints. Here’s a snapshot of what’s trending for 2018.
COLOURS OF THE YEAR
If you’re all about neutrality, look away! We’ve compiled the top picks and can tell you that deep and rich tones are definitely in.
Pantone – Ultra Violet True to form, Pantone marches to the beat of its own drum! According to the company, this year’s colour, “PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark in the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets”. Phew!
Benjamin Moore – Caliente Another bold choice, this hot colour gets its own video!
Sherwin Williams Oceanside Yet another vibrant tone, Oceanside is ‘a collision of rich blue with jewel-toned green’. We’d say you gotta love this one to do the whole room!
Behr In the Moment More subdued, yet still luxurious, In the Moment is a delicious blue-green colour. We love that Behr puts together a collection of 20 trend colours.
Despite its chill demeanor, sage has been pretty hot in interior design lately. Even those it’s not as punchy as these signature 2018 colours, we do adore this natural tone. Shhhh…check out this gallery of design ideas!
PPG Black Flame A super dramatic mix of black and navy, this tone is both classic and luxurious. PPG gives us four collections – called ‘Corelations’ – to work with. Great idea!
GETTING CLASSY WITH BLACK
Bold colour is definitely a theme for 2018. Dramatic doors, cabinets, couches, walls, and yes, ceilings add punch to interior spaces. Now, what could be more dramatic than black? Perhaps you’ve noticed a growing selection of black décor or tiles. How far are you willing to go?
This black-themed article gives you ideas for 30 rooms! If redoing an entire room is too bold for your style, we’ve noticed a lot of renos – particularly for bathrooms and kitchens – that incorporate
black cabinetry, black trim and fixtures, or simply black accents. Whatever your taste, we can all agree that black will forever mean classy!
Incorporating black on your exterior is a sure way to add elegance and sophistication to your home. Perhaps you’ve noticed the polished look of new homes with black window and door trim. You can also add a dark stone and/or dark mortar to carry this look a bit farther. Here’s a gorgeous home that features our Shadow Stone® Building Stone.
THAT PAINT DOES WHAT??
After getting you so excited to start painting, we couldn’t sign off without sharing these high tech paints that are doing much more than adding colour to the wall. (P.S. check the price…). It seems that Sherwin-Williams is a frontrunner in these high performance paints that are (according to the company) doing everything from killing germs to reflecting heat from the sun!
Microbicidal Paint from Sherwin-Williams kills 99.9% of bacteria within two hours of exposure to a painted surface. According to the manufacturer, the paint continues to kill 90% of bacteria for up to four years.
Mold Killing Primer from Rust-Oleum is a fungicidal protective coating that can be used to paint over existing mold, mildew, moss, fungi, and odor-causing bacteria.
Harmony Interior Acrylic Latex improves air quality by reducing airborne concentrations of formaldehyde and other VOCs that are off-gassed by carpet, fabrics, new cabinets, etc. (available from Sherwin-Williams).
Crack-sealing Behr Elastomeric Masonry, Stucco and Brick Paint expands and contracts to resist cracking. According to Behr, this elastic paint can stretch up to 600% to fill hairline cracks.
Infrared-reflecting SuperDeck products by Sherwin-Williams can reflect solar rays back into the atmosphere. Never burn those feet again!
Don’t miss a spot with Glidden’s EZ Track Ceiling Paint that goes on pink but dries white. Brilliant!
Happy SPRING everyone, and happy decorating! Don’t forget to stretch…
