From a 10-year siding failure to a 10-year thin stone success.
Top marks for our Stack thin stone after 10 years on the shores of Lake Erie.
Located just steps from Lake Erie, the Northland Pointe long-term facility was built in 2003. Yet, by 2013, incessant winds, damp weather and southern exposure had taken a serious toll on the exterior siding, leaving the building at risk for further damage*. This location, like all Great Lakes locales, experiences continuous freeze/thaw cycles, plus the extreme temperature range of a true 4-season climate.
The regional municipality approved a $4 million facelift that included a new exterior insulation finish system (EIFS) on the top portion and our thin Stack stone in a generous 8 ft. skirt around the entire complex. This important renovation completed in 2015.
In early March 2026, more than decade after installation, we visited the site finding our Stack stone in pristine condition. At Arriscraft, we’ve been installing our remarkable thin stone for 20-years across North America with stellar results. For the Canadian and northern U.S. markets specifically, this is an important hallmark and a testament to the cold weather performance of our thin stone.
Stone with natural properties
Because we manufacture our unique calcium silicate stone with only natural materials – sand and lime – it delivers the same inherent structure, strength, and durability as natural stone. We simply speed up Nature’s process. We’ve manufactured in Canada since 1949 and in Fort Valley, Georgia since 2007.
These inherent properties are why we like to say that our beauty is not just skin deep.
Better system, better results
Well before ANSI 118.4 and its requirement for polymer-fortified mortar, we were advocating for it and using it. We knew more than 20 years ago that Type S mortars can’t perform as well given their rigidness and poor bonding characteristics. We have a broad range of thin stone products and versatile installation systems, including our ProGUARD DP® insulated concrete board system which meets current energy code requirements.
Did you know that our thin stone systems are approved by the toughest building code in the U.S. for extreme weather? Florida’s Miami-Dade Hurricane Building Code Section 1620 for High-Velocity Hurricane Zones.
