Renewal is here – 2017 Colour of the Year!

Phew. A year ago, we really didn’t know what to say about the double threat of Rose Quartz and Serenity! (Let’s chalk it up to a year of confusion and occasional dismay.) Perhaps a collective desire to move past 2016 (and a few snow falls) has made us over enthusiastic for something new? Whatever the reason, we’re thrilled with a brilliant, bright green to signify a fresh start, a new year and a fun colour for décor, fashion and accents in 2017!

Introducing Pantone® GREENERY / PANTONE 15-0343

Straight from the Runway!
runway green trendThe fashion world always sends colours and textures our way – influencing everything from clothing and accessories to interior design trends. Vogue.com recently released “The Decorating Trends to Look for in 2017” with ‘green’ topping the list.

You’ll find many tones of green to choose from inspired by the runway – whether it’s a wedding dress (yes, we said that) to Karl Lagerfeld’s Green Tote (out of stock!). Discover a full spectrum of greenery, from bright lime to rich grassy to soft teal, in your fashion and décor shopping this year. We know you’ll enjoy picking up some fun accents – from purses and earrings to throw pillows and plates!

Fun Interior Ideas
Tropical prints are hot for 2017 and, as luck would have it, tropical plants are green! Coincidence? Choose palm print wallpaper for full powder room treatment or as an accent wall in bright living areas or feature walls in bedrooms. Glen Boisvert residence 5795Have you ever said to yourself – “I should have more plants!”? Well, now it’s officially cool to do so. Explore creative ways to punch up a room’s décor with a plant feature. Everyone knows plants make indoor spaces ‘feel better’ and there’s a scientific name for that: biophilia! Wooden wall planters, stepped shelves, large lanterns, basic, yet charming, clay pots – your choices are endless. Check out Pinterest or this article with 15 amazing ideas.

Spring for Exterior Updates

Painting outdoor chairs, adding cushions and creating planters are simple and inexpensive ways to be trendy with this fresh colour. Plus, what says spring more than green? If you’re in a northerly climate, like us, synthetic greenery can survive the elements and quickly spruce up your front porch area.

Outdoor Paint Tip: if you have wooden Muskoka chairs or other outdoor wooden furniture – and you like to paint with bright colours – you might want to find marine paint at your local hardware store. It’s alkyd and requires more care and clean up than latex paint, but the staying power and colour options are incredible. Warm up the garage and get started!

A Smart Choice for the Front Door

If you dare to paint your exterior door green – here are links to Behr http://www.behr.com/consumer_ca/products/exterior-paint-and-primer and Benjamin Moore https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-ca/project-ideas-inspiration/exteriors/front-entrance-ideas-inspiration for exterior paint options. Did you know that your door colour has meaning? According to pro.com a green door ‘suggests that traditional values lay within. The people living there are ambitious and strive for personal betterment. They’re also good with their finances, as green is affiliated with money’. If you’re curious, here are 14 Front Door Colours and Their Meanings.

Finally – Explore the Palettes of 2017!

Pantone® is also giving us an array of palettes around 2017’s colour of the year: GREENERY

We fell in love with the warm “GRAND CANYON” palette. This collection is a great starting point to develop your own exterior palette. Consider your doors, window trim, porch posts and railing, plus planters or furniture. Choosing multiple complementary colours creates depth and sophistication to your overall exterior look.
